Can I have two versions of Ranger installed on the same pc?
Yes. The installation of two or more versions of Ranger for different
transports on the same PC will not cause any conflicts between the
versions.
Please note though that the Ranger installer registers the
Ranger control for the transport being installed, and, therefore, only
the Ranger version installed last can be used until a different Ranger
control is registered.
For example, if Ranger for the CR-180 is
installed first and then Ranger for the MVX is installed, the
Ranger-based application would work with the MVX scanner but not the
CR-180 because Ranger for the CR-180 is no longer registered with
Windows. In order for the application to again work with the CR-180,
Ranger for the CR-180 must be re-registered using the following steps:
[Windows XP]
- Close all Ranger based applications.
- Select [Start Menu].
- Select [Run].
- Type 'regsvr32 [Drive]:\[Full path to Ranger.ocx]\Ranger.ocx'.
- Press 'OK'.
[Windows Vista and 7]
- Close all Ranger based applications.
- Browse to the Windows System32 folder
- Locate the cmd.exe file
- Right-click on cmd.exe
- Select "Run as Administrator"
- Type 'regsvr32 [Drive]:\[Full path to Ranger.ocx]\Ranger.ocx'.
- Press enter
Please
note that the default installation path for the Ranger.ocx file is
'C:\Program Files\Silver Bullet Technology\Ranger\<transport>\API
Files\Ranger.ocx'
After pressing 'OK' or hitting enter, above, a
prompt will be displayed stating that 'DllRegisterServer in [Entire path
and OCX name] succeeded'.
Another method to register the Ranger
control for the transport you would like to run is by using the Ranger
Control Center tool available on
www.sbullet.com. Please log in and follow the Ranger SDK link.
Ranger v3+ is plug-in based and uses a Ranger core. The Ranger core OCX file is located in the path below.
32 bit OS
C:\Program Files\Silver Bullet Technology\Ranger\Ranger.ocx
64 bit OS
C:\Program Files (x86)\Silver Bullet Technology\Ranger\Ranger.ocx
Switching between Ranger can be done per the following:
Switch
| Actions
|
Ranger v2 to v3+ | Register the Ranger core mentioned above. |
Ranger v3+ to v2 | Register the "Ranger.ocx" appropriate for your scanner. |
Ranger v3 +to v3+ | No action required. |
Please keep in mind that Ranger v2 drivers are still actively developed.
