How do I solve connection problems with with my SmartSource Pro/Value/Adaptive?

If you're using Ranger for SmartSource PVA (version 2 Ranger)

  1. Confirm the SmartSource Startup application is running
    1. There should be a small icon next to the time at the bottom of the screen that looks like a check scanner.
    2. When you mouse over the icon a version number will appear (ie "8.8.5").
  2. If this icon does not appear then start the SmartSource Startup application in the start menu.
    1. Start->All Programs->SmartSource->SmartSource Startup
    2. This will start three applications that will soon disappear.
    3. The scanner icon should now be present next to the time.
  3. Try connecting to the scanner with your application.
  4. If this is successful you may want to find a way to run the SmartSource Startup application after logging into your computer.
  5. Does the Exerciser Application connect to the scanner?
    1. Start->All Programs->SmartSource->Utilities->Exerciser

If you're using Ranger for SmartPVA, aka SmartAPI (version 4 Ranger)

  1. Confirm the SmartSource Startup application is NOT running
    1. There should be a small icon next to the time at the bottom of the screen that looks like a check scanner.
    2. When you mouse over the icon a version number will appear (ie "8.8.5").
  2. If the icon is present, Left mouse click on the icon and then select "Shut Down..."
  3. Retry the application.
The steps above did not work. What do I do next?
